Andrea Barnett is an award-winning singer/songwriter/pianist based in Melbourne. She perfected her performance craft in the early 1990s at various original establishments including the Barley Corn and Empress Hotels. In 1997 Andrea gained residency at Collingwood's Cafe Bohemio and was the Miss in the popular Italian wedding band "5 Hits & a Miss” for three years.
In 2000 she staged the cabaret show "Amazonian Lady" as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and in 2001 won 1st prize in the National Australian Songwriters Association competition for "When I Lived Alone". In the noughties she made her debut album “Loose Ends” with producer Mark McSherry, a collection of musical musings on the delights and despair encountered via the struggle to find Self in contemporary life. Two more songs from "Loose Ends" brought Andrea further acclaim from the Australian Songwriters Association with top 10 placings in the Country & Contemporary categories of their 2008 national songwriting competition (for “Loose Ends” & “Fire in My Mind”), and a nomination for the Rudy Brandsma award for songwriting excellence. Delayed by pregnancy and early motherhood, a belated album launch for "Loose Ends" was held on 7th February 2010 at the iconic Hardimans Hotel in Kensington. A 100-strong crowd enjoyed the show put on by Andrea and her four piece band, and all CD sales were donated to the RSPCA in recognition of the first anniversary of Black Saturday. Andrea’s latest coup is winning the ABC radio “Play Apollo Bay” competition. Her composition “Friday on My Mind 2” was selected by nighttime presenter Derek Guille, Apollo Bay festival director Caroline Moore and ABC Dig’s Manager Tony Walker from over 100 entries, and earned her two performing spots at the 2011 Apollo Bay music festival. The winning song was well received by a highly appreciative audience upon its public debut. “Friday On My Mind 2” has since won 7th place in the “Australia” category of the National Australian Songwriters Association’s 2011 awards.
