Interview: 27 October 2009
Tell us about your music – how did you develop your sound?
Our music is basically - simple, honest, pop songs. There is nothing deliberate about our sound - we all grew up listening to 90s grunge/indie rock. We just plug in and play.
What were you all doing before this?
Before the Hawks - Aidan and I (Sarah) played as a duo called Running with Horses, and before that in Bad Girls of the Bible. Hannah is a new addition to the team - and with the line up change we became Hawks of Alba.
You guys were based in Scotland for the past few years – what’s the transition back to Aus been like for the band?
Yes, we spent a couple of years in Glasgow (as Running with Horses) - they do things very differently over there. The transition has been a slow one - spending two years out of the local music loop means that it takes a while to catch up on everything new. Coming home to Australia means we have the freedom to grow musically with no time limits (ie. visas).
What’s coming up in the future for Hawks of Alba?
The future... recording and gigging around the country as much as possible.
Australian music is?
Diverse, vibrant, exciting and happening. It's also under valued and needs more support - go see it happen - you might discover your own local hero!
