Snakadaktal are the winners of Unearthed High 2011! The four young men and one young lady of Snakadaktal absolutely floored us with the maturity of their song-writing. Intricate, balanced and spacious arrangements with a great aesthetic. These young Melbournians have the skill and attitude to go far.

Tell us about your music - how did you develop your sound?
We basically just threw together a bundle of different flavours, which developed quickly over the past year. We began writing simple fun pop songs purely for ourselves. This grew with the support of the people around us and evolved naturally as we continued to create more music.
How would you describe the Snakadaktal live show?
It is a very fun experience for us, and hopefully for the wonderful people watching, grooving and listening. Our live show is filled with glitter, smiles, colours, friends, instruments, dance moves and dreamy pop sounds. Others describe us as a “fun pocket rocket band."
You’re the winners of Unearthed High 2011. What are you hoping to gain from this opportunity?
More opportunities! Given the various adventures of the previous winners, we are all so excited about what the future holds. We feel incredibly delighted that already, new listeners are sharing their excitement for us. We are all super grateful for the kind words we have received over the last few weeks. That is our intention; to make music that people can enjoy and appreciate.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
Our siblings always tell us to enjoy what we do and go a little bit crazy. We always do.
Tell us about the bands, producers and people in the Melbourne music community that inspire you.
Northeast Party House have been our big brothers throughout our days and helped us out in many different ways. Michael from Love Connection also inspires us with his beautiful red socks. All the kids who come to our shows inspire us to continue and make every evening fun and memorable.
What else is coming up in 2011?
Exams. Apart from that, we are releasing our debut EP later in the year and are currently planning launch dates. We plan to play a bunch of shows and keep ourselves available for all that comes our way! We will also release some new songs and film clips, which we are all very excited about.
Australian music is?
Always courageous to be inventive and try new things. We love it. The music scene is ever growing with more admirable acts and such friendly people. We are so very privileged to be a part of it.
