Unearthed Artists We Like: The Murphy Boys , Elegeion

Vahrzaw formed in 1992 and consisted of George VanDoorn (vocals), Scott Williams (guitar), Steve Forster (guitar), and Scott Rowland (drums). Our first real gig was played in front of 800 people at a 'battle of the bands.' By the start of 1994, Forster and Rowland had left the band. Scott and George had been increasingly influenced by Black Metal and wanted to change the band's direction. Ben van Poppel (a legally blind individual) filled the vacant drumming position. We wrote a few new pieces and home recorded our first demo. It was extremely primitive. Our 2nd demo (i.e., 'Shadows of the Forest' [1995]) was sent off to record companies and got distributed by 'Dark Oceans Productions.' In 1996, VAHRZAW recorded the 'Black Resplendent Waters' demo. Six tracks were recorded and mixed in 7 hours at a local studio. Professionally printed covers were obtained and the demo was sold through zines/friends and attracted international buyers. After BRW, the pace slackened and other commitments/ideas forced us to disband. In 2005, the band decided to re-form and write music for an E.P. After a few blitzkrieg rehearsals, we set about recording the E.P. in Spectrum Studios (over 3 days). The result was the 'FUTILE' E.P (reviewed at www.pyromusic.net). A split cd was released w/the murphy boys & in 2007 they released the brutal Acquiesce E.P.
Album is in the works for late 2008.

A different spin from the other track. Still, a sludgie start and a killer ending. Good spin on subject matter aswell, not typical of the style. I...
