Renowned for her adventurous & varied mix of genres, this young wordsmith delivers fresh folk, philosophy & soul, lead by a powerful vocal freedom & a sassy, yet sincere stage manner. Whether performing with her band or in the timeless singer/songwriter style, her vibrant compositions blend intimacy, melody & groove with an explosive sense of narrative, poetry & experimentation. Within a sound that shifts between hard-hitting & mellow, Georgia, as the singer & poet, possesses the fragility of Laura Marling, the bite & depth of Ani Difranco, the conviction, power & groove of Lauryn Hill, tied together with a charm that is completely her own.

However, Georgia’s skills aren’t limited to the stage. In January 2009 she wrote, recorded, produced, funded and promoted the release of her debut mini-album Living the Grey which features seven of her compositions, an array of Brisbane talent and is just one example of Georgia’s abilities as a visual artist. Since its release Living the Grey has had strong support from Triple J’s Roots N All and Home & Hosed programs, as well as an ‘Artist Spotlight’ on the Triple J Unearthed website & podcast. Works from this debut mini-album have subsequently been selected for compilations such as A-Venue’s Creative Juices CD, fRETfEST’s Best Of, Island Vibe Festival & West End Carnivale Compilation CDs.

In 2008 she opened for Lior and South African protest singer Vusi Mahlasela both at the Brisbane Powerhouse and has performed as part of Valley Fiesta 2008, 2008 Brisbane Writers Festival and Island Vibe Festival 2007 & 2008. Her ambitious approach to Woodford Folk Festival chalkboards & Woodford 0809’s fRETfEST programme led to Bill Hauritz booking her for the 2009 Tree Planting Festival in May, complimenting her involvement with Greenfest in June 2009. She has appeared on bills with National and local artists such as Saritah, Jackie Marshall, Tommee (Tommee & the Neighbourhood), The Black Market Rhythm Co, Andi & George, Rob Longstaff, 2006 Deadly Award Winners Banawurun (Troy n' Trevelyn) and has also developed a reputation for appearing at community events including Walk Against Warming 2007 & 2008 at the Brisbane Riverstage, Oxfam Walk Against Want and a host of events supported by the Brisbane Activist Centre & community radio stations.

Born 21 years ago in Aurukun, a remote Aboriginal community in Cape York Peninsula, and growing up in Brisbane with strong & influential Indigenous mentors around her has meant that the perspectives & reflections that show up in Georgia’s lyrics are often surprising for a woman of her age. They show a depth of understanding surrounding the complexities of cultural identity & tradition, with a balance of criticism & optimism.

She also works part time for Education Queensland’s Indigenous School Support Unit (ISSU) as part of the Transition Support Services (TSS) team, supporting & advocating for Indigenous Cape York secondary students who study outside their community. In 2008 she completed a Bachelor of Popular Music with the Queensland Conservatorium - an audio engineering & production degree with an original music focus in which she gained extensive experience with recording technology & performing in a studio environment. Georgia also plays keys & sings with Gold Coast reggae band The Cool Calm Collective, Brisbane/Melbourne pop funk act Yeo & the Fresh Goods, performs as a backing vocalist for Mr. Laneous & the Family-Yah, while also sharpening her traditional music skills with the jazz duo G-Roove.
