Infectious rock for fans of Gyroscope, Brand New, The Foo Fighters, Boysetsfire, Birds of Tokyo and The Jam.
Coming four years after the release of their debut EP (2006’s 'Waiting For No One'), The Reserves’ sophomore EP 'Fuses To Flames' sees the four piece refining the template set down by their first offering, and building on it with wiser songwriting heads, engaging guitar hooks and soaring vocal harmonies.
No surprise given the bands work ethic, which saw them both demo tracks for the EP and record it in a secluded house in Margaret River, in WA’s southwest with Laurie McCallum (Boys Boys Boys!, Anime Fire). Its this work ethic, coupled with an intense live show, which has also garnered The Reserves support slots for the likes of Gyroscope, Birds Of Tokyo, Trial Kennedy and British India.
From the driving rhythms and bassline grooves of opener “Dealing With Ghosts”, the pedal to the metal hooks of “The Deep End” and “Empty Soul Syndrome”, to the dark and imposing tones of “Fuses To Flames (Save Me)”, this is all round a bolder, more confident outfit. With his unique vocal style, singer Matt Pirga has captured something truly special on this record, with a palette covering enough raw emotion to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. It is this dynamic which gives the band its edge.
Formed in 2005, The Reserves wasted no time recording their debut EP, releasing it to rave reviews and gigging relentlessly following its release. 2008 saw the band release double A side “The Road/In The End” which along with tracks from their EP saw RTR and Triple J airplay.
With the release of their brand new EP, 2010 is set to be a huge year for The Reserves, having already booked a support slot for Perth hometown heroes Gyroscope, as well as a WA tour with Melbourne's British India in the works. The band is busy writing new material, with their debut long player set to be recorded late 2010.
"Some of the most memorable hooks heard on any release this year...excellent." - The West Australian.
"At this EP's heart are really good songs played out by a band that actually understand the point they're trying to make." - X-Press magazine. ************************************************* More Info/Tracks/Shows: myspace.com/reserves Bookings - theband@thereserves.com.au
