My name is Damien Thornber and my band ‘The Orphans’ and I are on a mission of epic proportions! We have made a decision to dedicate our talents and time to serving a higher cause. In short we intend to promote ourselves as an ‘all proceeds to charity’ band.

Damien Thornber and Emily Minchin are the keys members of a unique contemporary acoustic folk/rock band, Damien Thornber and the Orphans. The initial concept for the band was formed in 2006, after Damien witnessed some of the worst poverty in the world. Realising he had all the necessities and luxuries he could own, gained from the fortune of living in a wealthy country, he was inspired to use his musical talent as a tool for helping the less fortunate. Damien Thornber and the Orphans have recorded a full-length album and a single (and are in the process of recording a second album), which they sell, and donate the funds to a charity VOW Educational Services Inc., which provides underprivileged children with otherwise unattainable education opportunities. They have moved nearly three thousand copies of their first album in Australia and Asia, helping to send nearly 50 Indonesian children to school as a result.


Thornber, self-taught guitarist and singer/ songwriter, writes and performs from the heart, and has a natural talent for captivating and enchanting audiences, always making for a refreshing and intimate experience. Classically trained Minchin completes the duet performance, with melodic viola lines weaving throughout and warmly complementing the intricacy of the guitar. The addition of bass, drums and electric lead guitar for the full band experience expands the songs into full-bodied, and even more energised sounds. The relaxed stage feel and ample dynamics are further enhanced, using space and colour effectively to convey the stories, feelings and experiences each song shares with a listener.


They perform regularly in Perth and regional Western Australia as a duet and full band, including festivals, concerts, bars, parties, restaurants, charity functions, and corporate functions, and have played alongside the likes of The Yabu Band, Nathan Gaunt, Fitzroy Xpress, Matt Gresham and Zigatango.
