The Vice Chancellors might prove a little too big for Perth in the next year or so. Squeeze the Sky is as ambitious as it is brilliant. The Vice Chancellors have been around to long to be an exciting new discovery, but while most have heard the name, few realize just how stunningly original and intelligent this band’s music is. Opening track Chomping through the Zoo is a plate-full of organ-fuelled psychedelic pop, washed down with lashings of screeching saxophone. EP highlight Snow Caps is a dark journey through tunnels that reach on forever, lined with grinding string sounds and glockenspiel. Beautifully bizarre closing track Rainbow Falls (Burn the Sun) seals this as possibly the best release from a Perth band in years. The accompanying artwork makes this EP something you need to own.
