Since launching themselves to a sell-out crowd at Melbourne’s Evelyn Hotel in late 2006; Melbourne independent alt-acoustic pop four-piece Skipping Girl Vinegar have had a remarkable first year. A groundswell of interest has seen them rack up an incredible list of supports, including: The Lemonheads (USA), Something for Kate, The Shout Out Louds (Sweden), Bob Evans and Angus & Julia Stone.
Skipping Girl Vinegar’s infectious, rambling, debut single ‘One Chance’ (complete with animation film clip) was discovered by Richard Kingsmill and added to high rotation on JJJ in late September 07. The accompanying animated clip for ‘One Chance’ has also received a great response. Rage featured it on their website as their first ‘indie clip of the week’ and JTV featured it as their "new" clip for the week early October, before it then charted in their Top 20).
Described as where hi-fi swagger meets lo-fi sway, their forthcoming album 'sift the noise' features an international all star list of production credits. ‘One Chance’ is the first single taken from ‘Sift the Noise’. Produced and recorded by Greg Arnold (ARIA award winner, APRA songwriter of the year), Caleb James (Brisbane engineer/ producer) & Melbourne soundscape artist and SGV member Mark Lang The album was recorded in beach shacks, living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens across Victoria, concluding at Port Melbourne’s Atlantis Studios in mid 2007.
Renowned UK mix engineer Adrian Bushby (Ben Kweller, Gomez, Foo Fighters) was so impressed by the rough mixes of the album he mixed ‘One Chance’ at London’s famous Rak studios, with plans to complete the remainder of the album in Jan. ‘One Chance’ was mastered by the legendary Greg Calibi (Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Lenny Kravitz) at Sterling Sounds in New York.
Recorded in houses around Melbourne, mixed In London and mastered in New York: ‘One Chance’ is a taste of what’s to come.
“Skipping Girl Vinegar“ - a quartet on their way to nationwide recognition. They manage to do something original and innovative with an old-world sound with their songwriting, production, arrangements and instrumentation. The songs have timeless quality..”
