Unearthed Artists We Like: Cloud Control

Forming in the later stages of two thousand and nine, Sydney locals New Navy draw influence from the great pop and indie acts The Cure and Talking Heads, combined with contemporary artists such as Vhs or Beta, Battles and Editors. Comprising Benjamin McInerney (vocals/bass), James Chave-Dubois (guitar), Jamie Corson (keys/guitar) and Matt Leslie (drums), this ambitious quartet have received attention and praise for their ethereal and intimate live performances- sharing the stage with Australian heavyweights Wolfmother,Dappled Cities, Philadelphia Grand Jury and Miami Horror. Upon completion of their first recording their song ‘Animals’ reviewed by triple J’s new breakfast host Tom Ballard as “a kick arse party track”, animals was recently featured first on the Triple J Unearthed podcast; a sure sign for big things to come for a young and passionate group still on the brink of something special.

Lots to like about this song: great sounds, solid melodies. It meanders in parts, but overall this is a good tune.

I can tell this would be a kick-ass party track. I think the mix of rock and electro shenanigans is nicely reminiscent of Bloc Party.

A slick indie tune sounding like the Human League crossed with mid 80s Cure. The song has a dark vibe about yet but at the same time is quite catchy....
