A Beggars Second
Genre: Roots, Pop
Region: Perth, WA
Members: Ben Bowden - vocals and guitar, Mark Degebrodt - drums
Sounds Like: City and Color, Angus and Julia Stone, Nick Drake
Influences: Tool, Pearl Jam, The Strokes

Bred in Perth, 'A Beggars Second' brings a vibrant, honest perspective emerging from the city's grass roots acoustic scene.

Having just finished their first album, recorded in the warm analog bath of Poonshead Studio, this duo's debut release is set to soothe. Ben Bowden's melody driven lyrics and guitar, backed by Mark Degebrodt's percussive rhythms bring to light a different development with each track. Tales of love, growth, loss and greed sit themselves in catchy melodies and notable hooks that draw the listener in with each passing note.

While A Beggars Second may still be relatively new to the scene, the band members are not. Degebrodt’s history starts with heavy outfit Diffusion - a band that has played along side some of Perth’s well knowns in the scene, such as Karnivool and Heavy Weight Champ. Bowden’s history is less known to Australia – having performed as a solo artist in Norway’s Troubadour festivals with the likes of Scandinavian artists Robert Post and Karin Park to name a few.

Both Bowden and Degebrodt are also members of emerging heavier outfit Serial Killer Smile. SKS played their first shows on tour with the explosive Full Scale Revolution capping off the WA tour at sold out Amplifier Bar.

My new favourite song! Brilliant build up and Ben's vocal diversity is quite spectacular in this song.
