Round the Corner

Round the Corner is a mix of indie and gritty pop with a bit more grit than pop. Their strength lies in soaring vocals and clever lyrics delivered with delicious melodies and a rock solid beat. Can you dance to this music? Yes.

Calling Wollongong home, the boys from ‘RTC’ live within a stones throw of each other. That’s where the name comes from. The name also puts them in good stead when they crack it big on the radio… “coming up round the corner is ‘Round the Corner’ with their new hit Red Temptress”… classic. The Band has existed for the last three years with brothers Jack and Joey there from the start. The current line-up is twelve months old.

The band members are as follows:

Jack Dawson AKA ‘Bear’ fronts this six piece with probably the best set of lungs on the South Coast of New South Wales. No Joke, ask his high school singing teacher. Bear once tried out for X Factor and was told that his voice was good enough but he needed a traumatic story to go with it.

Joey Dawson AKA ‘Hurricane’ makes synthetic noise on his mini keyboard and pretty melodies on the glockenspiel. Joey wants to make a living playing music because he needs good stories about the ‘olden days’ to tell the kids (when he has ‘em).

Josh Graham AKA ‘Cobra’ makes real beats on his drum-kit. Cobra would rather play in a punk band but is dating Jack and Joey’s sister so is stuck with this outfit.

Chris Weeks AKA ‘Nego’ is the newest member of RTC. We call him Nego because he is always fizzing with excitement. Nego plays the bass, is the best surfer in the band and also happens to have a sweet work van which doubles as tour bus.

Niels AKA ‘Straw’ plays the guitar. One of his guitars was a gift from the actor who co-wrote and played the Headmaster in the popular children’s television show “Round the Twist”. Straw likes telling people this story and got his nickname from his skinny but functional legs and not any other part of his body.

Emma AKA Rose can play the violin like a riot. We call her Rose because she loves floral prints on textiles and she is the prettiest of the bunch. Rose hates imitation maple syrup because she is Canadian and can milk a cow better than you.

Over the last couple of years RTC has made finals in Uni and South Coast Band Comps, launched their first EP and toured the East Coast getting positive reviews and counter meals everywhere they went. Over the past year the boys have played consistently in Sydney and on the South Coast and have developed a legitimate following. As a consequence, they have tightened up their live act, written a bunch of new tracks and gotten serious about touring, recording and frothing.

The first time I heard this song it made me feel empathy for Niels but the live performance made me feel great! Overall a great experience
