Unearthed Artists We Like: The Murphy Boys , Elegeion


Vahrzaw formed in 1992 and consisted of George VanDoorn (vocals), Scott Williams (guitar), Steve Forster (guitar), and Scott Rowland (drums). Our first real gig was played in front of 800 people at a 'battle of the bands.' By the start of 1994, Forster and Rowland had left the band. Scott and George had been increasingly influenced by Black Metal and wanted to change the band's direction. Ben van Poppel (a legally blind individual) filled the vacant drumming position. We wrote a few new pieces and home recorded our first demo MIDGARD. It was extremely primitive. Our 2nd demo in 1995, SHADOWS OF THE FOREST was sent off to record companies and got distributed by 'Dark Oceans Productions.' In 1996, VAHRZAW recorded the BLACK RESPLENDENT WATERS demo. The demo was sold through zines/friends and attracted international buyers. After BRW, the pace slackened and other commitments/ideas forced us to disband in early 1998.
In 2005, the band decided to re-form and write music for an E.P. After a few blitzkrieg rehearsals, we set about recording the E.P. in Spectrum Studios (over 3 days). The result was the 'FUTILE' E.P (reviewed at www.pyromusic.net). A split CD was also released w/the murphy boys entitled HUBRIS & in 2007 we released the brutal ACQUIESCE E.P on indie label 'Hecatomb Records'.
In 2009 we recorded & released the brutal full-length album DEFIANT. A vicious stab at all forms of religion with swirling riffs, violent vocals and a rumbling raw rhythm section!

The band parts ways with Hecatomb records and becomes independent once again.
