A Day In May is a 5-piece alternative rock band from Melbourne, Australia formed in early 2010. The band consists of vocalist Anne Truong, guitarists Liem Bui and Nguyen Pham, bassist Shahiru (Shaz) Fernando and drummer Joseph (Joey) Young. The band started when guitarists Liem and Nguyen required an ensemble for their music studies. Shaz was the first to be recruited, originally as a drummer but later found playing bass more comfortable. Next to join was vocalist, Anne, recommended by a good friend. The boys were impressed by her high vocal range and found her to be perfect as lead vocalist. Last to join was Joey, recruited as a bassist, however chose to embrace his drumming talents later on. A Day In May's influences range from many music genres including punk, pop, hardcore and metal. They started off playing covers of their various influences such as Paramore, Blink 182, Parkway Drive and the Red Hot Chili Peppers before deciding to write their own music. With majority of the band still studying in high school, the group still makes time to write and play their original compositions. They hope to finish writing their EP by the end of the year.
