street angel

...lonely, depressed and lamenting the imminent break up of my previous band 'the new', i shut myself in my room and started writing. with the aid of an old beat up les paul, the pick ups held on by gaffa tape and the fret board torn to shreds, i began to write what would become my proudest work. inspired by the brutal honesty and ethics of my heros, i wrote of love, death, depression, loneliness, happiness, self doubt, drug abuse and suicide... all of which ive seen far too much of, and all of which haunts me.

four weeks passed and i had written nine songs and self recorded and released my first EP to many enthusiastic ears. my guitar and i were friends again, and a smile was on my face again and the stars were beautiful and the earth and everything.

I hand made one hundred CD's to give as gifts to those who appreciated the online samples i had uploaded to this shitty myspace site. the CD's were stamped and accompanied by a hand written track listing and placed inside an envelope with the words 'couldve moved mountains' scrawled on the front. I jumped at the opportunity to play my first show that my friend had set up at pony bar somewhere in the melbourne CBD. although i was growing increasingly frightened about playing in front of people by myself, my nervous fingers and my shaky voice behaved and were met with mostly admiration.

a couple of weeks later my friend and former bandmate Rob came to my house with various instruments and my solo became our duo! We'd only played a couple of shows together, before we were stumbled upon by a nice young man called Mic who could play a bit of bass and drums...

and then there were three!

...more to come as the story unfolds...
