Inspiration comes from a different location for every artist, a special place where an idea sprouts and grows into something tangible. The origins of Tully on Tully’s latest single ‘Stay’ initially a poem, sprung whilst in a pocket of park in Carlton, Melbourne. A group who are lovers of the craft of songwriting, ‘Stay’ is Tully on Tully’s first collaboration where Melbourne artist Hayden Calnin was invited to lend his voice on the track.

Featuring infectious vocals by Natalie Foster, the simple and direct lyrics shadow a kind of poignant vulnerability, shifting between feeling like you are moving too deep into a relationship and pushing away to protect yourself before turning back… realising you already have what you want.

Foster’s performance is understated and controlled, swelling to an emotional peak supported by the soulful vocals of Hayden Calnin. The sparseness of the instrumentation, crisp production and catchy progression makes ‘Stay’ a song that lingers in your head long after listening.

From their early beginnings in mid 2011, Tully on Tully under their previous guise of ‘Tully & the Thief’ caught the attention of both fans and critics alike. Their previous single ‘Hard to breathe’ was awarded ‘Single of the Week’ in Beat Magazine and the band picked as ‘FBi Radio's Unsigned Artist Of The Week’. After a writing period to complete their debut album, Tully on Tully returned with their first single ‘Naked’ last
year which earned Triple J rotation, community radio airplay with 3RRR, FBi Radio, SYN and shows alongside Deep Sea Arcade, Buckley Ward & Ali Barter.

The necessary comparisons to well-known artists have been made but Tully on Tully’s unique blend of progressive folk pop beckons you bend an ear and just enjoy.
