Prologue.
Grey street is a collaboration of Adelaide based musicians/songwriters Scott Morphett and Jonny Parrish. The music they create is a blend of Acoustic based rock/pop mixed with blues, jazz and soul, from the heart. Sharing the Lead on Vocals and Guitar, their aim is to make the hairs spring up on the back of your neck and lose yourself in the Melody, rhythms and harmonies of their songs.
Scott a native of Adelaide and Jon originally from North Yorkshire, England met through playing in different bands on the local scene (Mo che, August Falls, Dirty Frank) and found a common desire to create something different that would stand out from the rest.
The guys.
Scott Morphett has been playing guitar since age 11 and student of music all his life. Born into a music loving family in Adelaide, his mother being an opera singer, gave him his first influences in music and encouraged him to learn and play, first picking up the piano at age 7 then guitar at age 11. Along the way to Grey street he has been influenced by many styles from classical to metal, rock and pop to hip-hop, funk and jazz; and in his songwriting brings out a little bit of these influences to you the listener. First writing songs in metal bands right after high school then changing styles a few years later with a Funk/rock group called Moché.
Scott’s music has long remained undiscovered but thinks with Grey street it will usher in a new period of discovery in more ways than one.
Jon Parrish was born in Wakefield, England. He lived and grew-up there until age 19 when he move to Adelaide with his family. He first decided he wanted to play the guitar on a visiting plane trip to Australia at the age of 9, after listening to Mark Knopfler and was hooked. He got his first guitar at age 14 and has played in one band or another since that time. Some rock/pop, some punk and metal and some funk and blues. Names of note were Corporal Green, Crimson Fate and Dirty Frank. He has dabbled somewhat with songwriting in the previous bands but it is not until the current project started that he has a focus on the Singer/songwriter role. His songs are personal and if you listen it will tell you a little story about him.
The way down Grey street is a path of Discovery.
