Tom Ugly (formerly known as [is]) recently won Triple J Unearthed's 'Unearthed High' competition with the toe-tapping, head-bobbing and unforgivably catchy tune, 'Cult Romance'.

This high school band have since shared the stage with the likes of Grinspoon, Midnight Juggernauts, Van She, Blue Juice and British India. The debut EP is set for release in early 2009.

With band members aged 16 & 17, Tom Ugly have also enjoyed much success in a range of other areas.

In the ABC Annual Report of 2008, Tom and the band were splattered on the very front and back pages of this significantly well-spread chronicle, chosen as the representatives of this country's youth and digital future.

Their representation of the bloomers of Australia did not stop there, when the state of South Australia were kind enough to accommodate and transport the band to the lower slice of Australia's land mass to play at the first official 'Australian Youth Forum Launch'.

Over time, a series of written words have been based upon this artist, most notably when the Sydney Morning Herald printed an article on the back page of the daily issue, about the band, their music and raising the question if this artist may be the next 'Silverchair'? It was released a day after the band's lunch time show with 'Something With Numbers'.

In 2007 they also won the 'Jb Hi- Fi Competition' winning 3 tickets to Melbourne and recording an album with professional art design at Studio 52.

The band headlined at the Kool Skools 2007 Awards at 'The Metro Theatre' in Sydney, winning best alternative rock song with "Someone Sued Superman" and "Tom Ugly" winning best artist/outstanding talent as a songwriter.

The song "Someone Sued Superman" was featured in a monthly podcast by the Official Superman Homepage (www.supermanhomepage.com).

Prior to this they represented Sydney in the National Finals of the 'Global Battle Of the Bands' in late 2006, and happened to be the only underaged band competing on the night, at 'The Home Club.'

The band were also featured on the mixed compilation album "Alpine Uncovered" which is available on itunes and was free in the 'Herald Sun' at its release.

I like how it starts really dark and then brightens right up with the chorus. It's a damn catchy little chorus too! The singer hits the notes without...

This song subscribes to the Presets school of 'creepy meets catchy', kind of like watching very early Hanna-Barbera cartoons. It has an unforgiving b...

Sounding great with the energy and vibe of the original but just a little more crisp around the edges.
