Early 2006 found Brisbane-based rock band Theory of Value as 3-piece line up, after having previously performed numerous shows as a 4-piece. The change immediately saw Beau, Ross and Mark motivated to work on new material and outlet their individual style, characterised by flowing arrangements and contagious melodies. With an over flow of material being produced, the band began planning their impact on the current music scene.
Late 2006 saw Theory of Value showcasing their new material live for the first time to venues throughout Brisbane and the Gold Coast. With growing popularity and exceptional feed back from their live shows, the boys were refreshed with the knowledge that people were enjoying what they were hearing. However, it was obvious to the band that the stage presence and writing flexibility of a 4-piece was somewhat missing.
In 2007 after months of searching, the band decided to add Adam as a second guitarist to help fill this void. His versatility and experience saw him quickly become an integral part of Theory of Value’s sound. He joined the band onstage for the first time at the Hard Rock Café on the Gold Coast, and although the existing members were already pleased with what Adam brought to the band, the success of the show confirmed they had found exactly what they were looking for.
With the line up now complete, the band saw the importance of laying down a professional recording. In March 2008, Theory of Value entered the studio, teaming up with long-time friend and producer Jared Doevendans, to record their 4-track EP at Tremor Studios, Pottsville, New South Wales. Months of pre-production work found the guys well prepared for the result they were after, and with the songs easily taking form, it was obvious that the hard work had paid off. Having the final product mastered by Michael Fossenkemper at Turtle Tone Studios, Manhattan, New York City, was the icing on the cake. The result was a world-class recording and reflected a solid image of the band’s individual style.
Always striving to achieve more, the guys agree that it still feels like just the beginning for Theory of Value. With the band’s dedication, persistence, hard work and drive for success, there is no doubt greater things are still to come…
