Aussie hip-hop is about to be reminded what it's all about with the fresh sounds of Australian hip-hop artist, Vankwish.

Introduced to Australian hip-hop as a teenager, Vankwish immediately connected with a style of hip-hop that represented the culture he grew up in. What started out as fun, beat-boxing and freestyling with a group of mates, has over time developed into a serious and impressive talent that maintains the cultural element of Australia in what he writes. With performances across a range of Canberra's live venues and with freestyle and open mic nights to his credit, Vankwish has accomplished a diverse performance history; the highlight being an open mic performance for Hilltop Hoods and Hospice Crew in Canberra in 2004.

Vankwish's first release is EP Heads Up. Written, recorded and produced by the artist, the EP gives a clear image of who Vankwish is; a storyteller. His descriptive and detailed lyrics are visual and reveal the range of talent in his songwriting, from the hard-hitting, powerful lyrics of Street Art and World Issues, to the more reflective and emotive songs like Little Hands and The Journey. The EP features the talents of local Canberra artists from Veterans of Vandalism and Calici Virus including Vic Bitter, Nups, Shrink, Danoz (Rhyministers) and DJ Jeztah among others.

Radio stations have embraced the debut release, with air play extending from 2XX Community Radio in Canberra, to PBS FM in Melbourne and Triple J nation-wide. The EP can be purchased at Landspeed Records in Canberra (Ph: 02 6248 9220), or directly from the artist.

Vankwish; back to its roots Aussie hip-hop. Heads up.
