Are you in a band that's too cool for school? Then we want to know about it! triple j Unearthed is hunting high and low for Australia's best High School Band.
Radiohead . Silverchair . Muse . Operator Please.
These are just some of the bands who started when they were in high school and you could be next in line.
Along with becoming the legends of your high school, we'll fly the winning band to Sydney and re-record your track with our brilliant triple j music engineers. You'll be played on triple j, featured on triplej tv and splashed across the pages of jmag.
AND your school wins too! We'll bring punk band 'Something With Numbers' to your school for a super exclusive lunchtime concert! These guys have have just returned from New York where they've been recording a brand new album. They've played with Grinspoon, Silverchair and Powderfinger and if they come to your school you'll get to open the show!

So...how do you enter?
- Write an original song and record it
- Sign up as an artist on this website and upload your track
- Download the entry form, fill in your details and also get your school principal to show they approve by signing the form and send it back to us
- Get your all your friends to register on triple j Unearthed and rate and review your tracks. We need to know that your school supports you too!

FAQs
Do we all have to go to the same high school?
No. 50% or more of your band must be from the same school. The rest can be from other schools or not in school at all. If you are a duo, you must both be from the same school. If you have 3 members, 2 must be from the same school. If you have 4 members, 2 must be from the same school. If you have 5 members, 3 must be from the same school...and so on.
What do you mean by high school?
Year 7 - Year 12
I go to TAFE, can I still enter?
Unless you have over 50% of your band in high school (this does not include TAFE) you cannot enter.
I'm in primary school, can I still enter?
Unless you have over 50% of your band in high school (this does not include primary school) you cannot enter.
Our best song is a Nirvana cover. Can we submit that?
No. You must submit an original track.
Do I really have to get my principal's signature?
As part of this prize involves triple j putting on a concert in your high school it's important we get a signature from either your principal or another school authority.

Terms and conditions
- The Unearthed Artist Agreement and General Competition terms and conditions apply to this competition.
- This competition starts 9am AEST on Tuesday 25 March 2008 and closes at 5pm AEST Friday 16 May 2008.
- To enter the Competition, you must:
- sign up or be signed as an artist on triplejunearthed.com and sign the artist agreement;
- have at least 50% of your band currently attending the same high school;
- produce an audio recording of an original song and upload it to the unearthed site by the closing date;
- have the support of your school principal.
- The finalists and the winner will be chosen by a panel of triple j experts including the music director, Richard Kingsmill and the program director, Chris Scaddan. We will be choosing one national winner. The winner will be picked based on the quality of songwriting and musicianship and the potential to benefit from a re-recording of the winning track.
- The finalists will be announced on Friday 30th May 2008.
- The winners will be announced in accordance with the General Terms & Conditions on Monday 9th June 2008.
- The prize consists of the following:
- A lunchtime performance at the winning high school by the winning band and a guest band to be chosen by triple j
- A triple j presenter/s to MC the performance
- An opportunity to re-record the winning track with triple j music engineers in triple j’s Sydney studios
- Airfares from nearest capital city to triple j studios in Sydney for band members and one guardian
- Accommodation for band members and one guardian for two to three nights during recording
- Feature on triple j tv and in jmag
- Total prize value estimated at $3000
- A winning band who ordinarily resides in Sydney is not eligible to win the Accommodation and Airfares.
- The winning band is responsible for all costs associated with using the prize including all transfer costs to and from each airport used in connection with the prize, travel costs in and around Sydney, costs with respect to food and beverages, travel and medical insurance costs, and spending money.
- The prize is not transferable or redeemable for cash.
- No replacement will be offered in the event that the prize cannot be claimed on the stipulated dates.
- One guardian must accompany the winning band. The prize includes the cost of the guardian’s airfare to and accommodation in Sydney.
- Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
