Jim Lawrie has been a drummer in bands for about ten years, most recently for Melbourne indie band Eagle and the Worm. Often being mistaken for Henry Wagons, Jim has opted away from the high paying perks of the celebrity impersonater industry and has turned his attention to his own stylings of acoustic driven songwriting.
Filled with whitticisms about the heartbreaks of day to day life and an unhealthy obsession with the afterlife, his music is very much lyric focused. With a passion for words, Jim presents songs that tell stories as well as reflecting on the past and praying for the future.
Though driven by acoustic guitar, Jim's songs are sonically varied and rich; inspired by the sound of acts like Bon Iver, Bright Eyes, Neil Young and Townes Van Zandt, Jim has layered his songs with pianos, brass and guitars, creating a lush but subtle sound.
Both as a solo performer and when backed with a band, Jim is a captivating performer, and has shared the stage with the likes of Big Scary, Buckley Ward and Johnny Flynn (UK).
Jim's debut lp, Paying My Debts From the Grave, amply showcases his talents as both a singer and songwriter. Paying My Debts, which is out in November, was engineered with the help of both Jimmy Allen (Buckley Ward) and Ryan Nelson (SubAudible Hum, Silver City Highway), and a band inclusive of Jim's brother, Si, and Little Red's Tom Hartney, Jimmy Allen, and Tom Flatman.

A drowsy little dirge that really stands out from the pack of similiarly plaid-clad songwriters going around. The jaundiced narrative is a winner but...

This dude rules! He writes so honest and his haunting voice suits those song structures down to a tee. Can't wait to hear more!
