You walk in to a bar somewhere in the middle of this painted desert and there's a really hot ‘unknown' singer/songwriter ripping it up in the corner. His voice and songs are so good you think to yourself, 'Why haven't I heard of this guy before?' Been there? Well, I guess fate has a strange way of weaving it's magic. All you need to know is that you found this remarkable talent before the rest of the world got with it..... in saying that some parts of the world already know the name John Harley Weston.

He is the winner of the prestigious Australian National Songwriting Contest 2005 (rock category) with the song 'Last Days Of Summer' off his current album 'Hope Harbour'. He's since gone on to receive highest level honourable mentions from Billboard World Songwriting Contest 2006 for the same song as well as his humanitarian lament 'Brothers and Sisters' - a song inspired by the conflict in the Middle East. He just scored in the top 20 at the notoriously difficult Unisong World Songwriting Contest and as if that's not enough he was also voted top 5 best vocalist in the world by a heavy-weight US music publisher Dale Kawashima (Sony ATV, Giant, Mercury) who's been in charge of music catelogues of Beatles, Jackson and Australia's own Natalie Umbruglia etc.

These awards are no easy task....we're talking export quality songwriting here.

Rave Magazine Australia says, '......well crafted rock songs with strong soulful vocals....bluesy rhythms...and a voice that strongly recalls Paul Rodgers on Free's All Right Now.

Tsunami Magazine says, ' ....an economical album for the masses.....late afternoon urban blues.......socially aware vocal narrative.....'

A Gold Coast Music Industry Association live music review said '...superb songwriting skills.....mixing rock and pop and adding a pinch of country and blues his sound is quite original.....music is his life....John Harley Weston could quite easily have come from a mould of Van Morrison.'

As lead singer with Scottish group Frontier signed to Polygram UK in the 90's John worked with some of cream of the music industry including legendary Steeley Dan producer, Gary Katz, as well as members of Paul McCartney's band. Some Aussie Rules fans may know the name since he also wrote a song for the Brisbane Lions AFL team in 1999 called 'The Road To Victory' released via Festival/Mushroom Records.

Weston now lives on Australia's Gold Coast on Tamborine Mountain (dubbed Music Mountain as it boasts many great musician and songwriters as residents). His relative anonymity (he says he likes the solitude) can only be because the best is yet to come.....and his first solo independent album is the start of it.

Much more than a straight-ahead rock singer this man has a lot of soul and weaves elements of rock, pop, blues, soul and even country together in to a classic package. This is a world-class vocalist and songwriter able to quench any musical thirst.

Weston is in the middle of writing/recording another album due for release late 2006.

You get the feeling this writer is displaying the tip of his iceberg. Think of the real pros like Ben Harper, Springsteen, Paul Kelly, David Gray, Lyle Lovett, Paul Rogers, John Mellencamp...........John Harley Weston is another name to add to that list. Check out website for more info.
