Joni Mitchell, The Decemberistis, Judee Sill
Katie Wighton is one of these unique and rare musical beings. She has a combination of technical skill and heartfelt songwriting usually associated with Joni Mitchell or Carole King. Katie’s music draws a little from the classic songwriters of the past, with a dash of the weird, a hint of jazz inflection and impressive vocal artistry.
Since moving to Sydney in 2011, Katie Wighton has shared the stage with seasoned Australian musicians such as Elana Stone, Brian Campeau (The Rescue Ships), Leroy Lee, Jack Carty and Danny Widdicombe at venues across Australia.
Katie's musical life began at the tender age of 6 when she started learning piano at Mrs. Paxton's piano studio in Wilston, Brisbane. Since then, Wighton has received accolades in both the jazz and pop world, most recently being named a semi-finalist in the National Jazz Awards held in Wangaratta in November 2012.
“We really dig Katie Wighton. Lovely and strange chamber pop.”

Understated, sparse, beautiful
Rises and falls with perfect grace. A beautiful folk ballad.
This is a beautiful track - it should be heard on the radio ! She has a wonderful voice and the sparse piano works a treat. Bruce
