Long Island Sound are a young quartet from Newcastle, Australia. They play angular math-pop, combining mixed meters with vocal harmonies, bridging the gap between lo-fi indie pop and instrumental experimental rock.
Optimistic and joyous, Long Island Sound write music that greets you like the morning sun at the end of a long winter night. Welcoming and warm, the band’s songs contain the fervor of youth, tempered by nerdy intelligence.
Comprised of singer/guitarist Andy Woodward, singer/guitarist/keyboard player Chris Lawrence, bass player Mitch Elliot and drummer Sean Cook, the members of Long Island Sound met at high school, but did not start making music together until 2009. Within months of forming, the band was one of three finalists in Newcastle’s Bacardi Band Search, recognition of the early excitement surrounding the band in their hometown.
In 2010, the band has been busy recording their debut EP with Sydney producer Dave Hammer, who has also worked with other bands making waves on the local indie scene, such as Snowdroppers, Pockets and Le Kingste.
With their sleepy riffery and often barbershop-esque harmonies, Long Island Sound draws influence from bands as diverse as Foals, Battles, Animal Collective and Maps and Atlases.
In their short career, Long Island Sound have performed alongside Die! Die! Die!, Cloud Control, The Seabellies, Richard in your Mind, The Protectors and Oh Ye Denver Birds.
Long Island Sound will be releasing their first single ‘Animal House’ from their forthcoming EP in November 2010. The EP is due for release in February 2011 through MGM.
“Instantly wowing audiences with their killer pop arrangements and innate sense of musical innovation.” Nick Milligan – Reverb Magazine

I love how this song sounds like it's tripping over itself. Very keen to see if you can pull it all off live.

If Weezer did mathrock it would sound like this. Melodic, harmonic, driving, energetic, epic, poptastic. I always find it a little distracting when a...

There's an immense punch to the guitars and drums which is more than welcome, but then the harmonies and melodic singing are quite poppy. A deft mix ...
