The Bennies
Genre: Punk, Rock
Region: Melbourne, VIC
Members: Anty - vocals and korg, Steve - guitar, Bowie - drums, Craig - bass
Sounds Like: rancid, sublime, The Clash
Influences: Pingaz, Ska music, Parties

The Bennies (formerly Madonna) are a four piece band who have been together for just over 3 years.

While they are inspired by the likes of The Clash, Sublime and Rancid, The Bennies consider themselves a party band. Elements of hip-hop, psychadelic, metal and pop also influence the band into their own fun loving style.

Although the punk/ska genre may sometimes be considered dated, The Bennies breathe life into the style by performing with extreme energy, enthusiasm and an unbashful love to party. Their line-up is guitar, bass, drums, microkorg and the singer utilizes delay vocal effects as well.

With bouncy bass lines, fast high-hats and filthy synth noises an undeniable homage to the club scene is present. The lyrical content is drug praising, night-life loving and good times rolling.

In their short career so far the band have completed an international tour of Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, supported international acts such as The Aggrolites, Streetlight Manifesto, Leftover Crack, Star Fucking Hipsters, AC4 and Doing Life, released a self titled album ('Madonna' 2010) and played more than 200 gigs in and around Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.

Their new release 'PARTY! PARTY! PARTY!' is available on CD and 12" Vinyl

Reviews:

“The album is pretty much a non-stop celebration of being on drugs and goofing off. It’s bloody hard to do anything new within the reggae/ska/punk paradigm, but these guys definitely manage to stand out. There’s almost nothing we dislike about this band” – Brent Balinski from Blunt Magazine

“Bands like this don’t fall into the sea of cheesy/cheap ska, so don’t let the three letter word scare you off, there are plenty of hook filled moments that leave you itching for a repeat listen.” – Bomber from bombshellzine.com

"I think if you took the the energy of Op Ivy, some of the musical exploration of Sandinista era Clash and mixed it with good times and jubilation then you lean towards The Bennies' aesthetic" - Dr. Analranch from duderocket.com

"Violent, sexy, endorphin fuelled and unabashed, like every urge we're taught to ignore, the buzz about The Bennies is definitely getting louder for a reason." - Katie Besgrove from lanewaymagazine.com.au
