The Fold emerged out of the musical partnership of Matthew Daniel and Chris McCaw, who began to nervously generate their first collaborative sounds sometime around the dawn of time (1998, that is). Both native to Melbourne, but from opposite sides of the tracks, their music was a self-conscious and intricate combination of their different experiences.
With the arrival of Nick Tumney on electric bass and Justin Marshall on drums and percussion the group played its first live shows in Melbourne in 2002 and started to sculpt a series of varied songs, that eventually led to the recording of a predominantly melancholy EP 'Never, Again' in the following year. Additional instrumentation was added on the EP by the violinist Alison Blunt, a London native, who (foolishly) invited/dared? the boys to give London a try.
After deciding that adventure and excitement would not come uninvited, the band set to bombarding English and European festivals and pubs with demo's, letters, phonecalls and some imaginative interpretations of reality until the band ended up in London, dossing with Alison. With the serendipitous arrival of Matthew French, drummer and percussionist, the Fold set to giving venues in London, and a couple of European summer festivals, their best.
Currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album, 'A Kind of Lightening', The Fold are poised for an exciting summer.
