Inspired by a sense of effervescence and exuberance, The Lights aim to delight the ear, spark movement, and lift emotion to the surface.
In 2010, The Lights performed throughout Melbourne’s inner-north – most regularly at The Workers Club, Empress Hotel and Brunswick Hotel – and strode forth to Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal.
2011 has already seen the launch of their debut EP, Pounding Hearts. In its four tracks, hearts are bold, faces gleam, and the world holds you as you dream: King and Queen makes grand romantic declarations. Ecstatic Cling palpitates with passionate abandon. Stellar Day celebrates rejuvenation. Heart Heart Heart reassures the neglected inner-voice that steadfastly waits to carry us home.
The EP has been well received by Melbourne radio, with airplay on The Hoist on SYN, The Breakfast Spread on PBS, Burning Vinyl on 3CR, Little Fish on Joy, and an interview and live studio performance on Bandcamp on Joy. Songwriters Across Australia, which broadcasts to 50 regional stations weekly, has devoted an episode to the EP.
