They have recently been added to the first announcement for the inaugural Ric’s Big Backyard Festival in March of 2011. The bill also includes Australian Icons You Am I, Pangaea (First show in 12 years), NZ staples Die! Die! Die! Local legends Six Ft Hick, Melbourne based rockers King Cannons and many more to come in a second announcement. They have been a staple on local community radio station 4ZZZ with 2 tracks appearing in this years 4ZZZ hot 100, and recently dipping their toe into the Triple J stream via Home and Hosed, The Mercy Beat’s live show is a force to be reckoned with.

“...How To Shampoo A Yak is a fantastic and confident debut from an exciting young rock band that will appeal to the head, heart and genitals in equal measure.”

“...a peculiar melting pot of rock, metal, hardcore and post-grunge riff-rock that is consistently engaging from start to finish... incredibly tight vocal and guitar interplay.”

“...absolutely ferocious live show”

4/5 Stars

- BEN SALTER, Time Off Magazine

“... The Mercy Beat make a deliriously fun racket that veers effortlessly from loud, rattling stoner rock to the nasty precision of Rollins Band.”

- MATT THROWER, Rave Magazine

Brutally shampooing yaks with crunching guitar riffs

“...the Brisbane quartet offer a journey into a realm where guitar riffs are hard currency.”

- DARRAGH MURRAY, Rave Magazine

“...Brisbane and Perth bands have owned Australia the last 25 years.. these two cities punch above their weight, continually... there are so many great bands around. The John Steel Singers, The Mercy Beat, Hits, The Butcher Birds... these are all bands that shit all over bands in Melbourne”

- BEN SALTER, Rolling Stone

“The whole concoction is a little unsettling but ultimately rewarding.”

“A bit like if the Drones met the Hard-Ons. I don't know if this is quite that, yet, but this is a debut album and quite an impressive start.”

- CHRIS, 4ZZZ FM

“...sporadic slower moments explode with distortion, screams and saturated licks – in kid-speak, “sick!””

- DENIS SEMCHENKO, Rave Magazine

“From strength to strength, this band ploughs, on stage tonight, and in general as a live act.”

- SAM HOBSON, Time Off Magazine

“The Mercy Beat’s dazzling variety of sounds makes for difficult pigeonholing.”

- JAMES STAFFORD, Rave Magazine

“...Evidently not fans of clean channel anything, the quartet explode with energy as metal squeals and gruff vocals pound through the speakers. They’re musically tight, navigating dynamics and speed changes with polish and ease...”

- MITCH KNOX, Time Off Magazine

“...boundless torrents of energy strike fast as they unleash sporadic vocals and guide their instruments through the shifting plateaus in their songs.”

- ASH JONES, Rave Magazine

“Sandwiched between two polished melodic rock bands, local aggro-rock merchants the Mercy Beat stand out like a thumb crafted from pure gold, completely stealing the show in the process. The band’s three vocalist/musicians bounce all over the stage with belligerent energy and childish abandon, completely out-performing both openers and headliners in sheer physicality, while belting out endlessly titillating loosely arranged slabs of guitar-based violence. The band leave ragged and breathless, almost unable to gasp out a salute to the headliners before tumbling off-stage in post-performance delirium.”

- MATT O’NEILL, Time Off Magazine
