Red Rival are the winners of our TAS Falls Festival competition. More about this competition »
Congratulations on winning the TAS Falls Festival competition!
Thanks! It was a complete shock.
What can the crowd expect from you when you hit the stage at Marion Bay?
We’re pretty excited about playing. We’ve been working on these songs for a while now and it will be good to get out there and play in front of a few people. It’s going to be loud and pretty raucous. I think all the nervous energy is going to take over when we get out there, so I’m not really sure what’s going to happen.
The Falls line-up is impressive - who are you most excited about sharing the stage with?
I’m looking forward to seeing the Bees and You Am I. Mike and I went to Splendour this year and we were blown away by You Am I. God bless Timmy, Rusty, Andy and Dave.
Tell us a bit about the local music scene in Hobart.
The scene is small, as you’d expect, but there’s some really great music here. It’s a bit embarrassing winning this, because I think bands like the Bad Luck Charms, the Scandal, Midnight Caller and our drummer Jay’s other band, the Ragged Anns, kick our arses.
There’s a fairly strong DIY ethos and I think that makes the ‘scene’, such as it is, a bit more interesting.
What’s the best thing about being in Red Rival?
I think the best thing is writing songs with the other guys, and jamming.
...and the worst?
The band nearly broke up a couple of months back. It was all very Spinal Tapp for a while, but since we got our new drummer things have been looking up.
Got any New Years resolutions?
I want to play a lot of gigs with Red Rival and do some recording.
Australian music is…
Out there. Go and find it.
