The Woodenelves
Genre: Rock, Pop
Region: Perth, WA
Members: Travis Caudle - vocals, Jonathon Tiedtke - lead guitar Paul Hardy - drums Steve Cann - bass
Sounds Like: Powderfinger, Coldplay
Influences: U2, The Church

Holed up in a Sydney recording studio with too much caffeine under their collective belts, producer Tim Powles couldn’t resist the urge to ask about the lyrics in one of the tracks the boys were laying down. He was convinced frontman Travis Caudle was singing about little wooden elves walking across the sea. He wasn’t, but the subsequent blurry-eyed, late-night rantings about such a phenomenon wouldn’t go away, and so The Woodenelves were born.

With their roots in Perth, Western Australia, The Woodenelves were formed in 2004 when Caudle teamed up with charismatic lead guitarist Jonathon Tiedtke. By mid 2005, the band had begun recording their first album with Powles, drummer of acclaimed Australian band The Church, at Spacejunk studio. The boys spent the next 15 months flying in and out of Sydney to record their album, Trips Between Worlds.

The album, mastered by Don Bartley, showcases The Woodenelves’ penchant for innovative, atmospheric rock.

Before it was released in May 2007, Trips Between Worlds picked up two awards. The track “A Little Bit of Me” has taken out the rock/indie category of the Australian Songwriters Association’s 26th National Songwriting Contest, while another track “What It Is” was the joint winner of the contemporary pop/dance category.

The Woodenelves’ album Trips Between Worlds has received airplay on stations including the Nova FM network Australia, CIUTfm Canada, 96fm Western Australia, Coast FM Western Australia, RTRfm Western Australia, FBI 94.5fm New South Wales, Radio 2DU New South Wales, 107.3 LIFE FM Queensland and PBS 106.7fm Victoria. Their debut film clip, for the single A Little Bit of Me has appearead on Rage, The Music Jungle and Song Writers Across Australia. As well, in 2006, The Woodenelves featured as the house band on ROVE Live.

The Woodenelves have a publishing agreement with Sydney company Foghorn Records and a licensing deal with Undercover Tracks in Los Angeles.

The Woodenelves have supported: Tim Rogers (You Am I) / Sarah McLeod (formerly of Superjesus) / Ash Naylor (Even) / Hugh Cornwell (formerly of The Stranglers)/ The Inches (Melbourne) / Borne (Melbourne)

The Woodenelves will also head overseas in 2008 after being invited to play at international festival Canadian Music Week from March 5 to 8.
