Since their beginning, fresh out of high school playing loud music in a shed, Horror My Friend has come a long way in their mere 18 months of life. In only a matter of months an EP “Shivers & Spines” (2011) was released, thrusting Horror My Friend into the local scene and gaining accolades throughout the online (Deaf Ambitions, Whothehell, etc) and local community. By means of their commitment to energetic and often chaotic live shows, they quickly gained a reputation as a young band to keep an eye on, while picking up noteworthy supports with such bands as DZ DEATHRAYS and DAMN TERRAN.

It was after the release of 2012 single, “Lifeblood” that Horror My Friend (Josh Battersby, Tom Gordon and Alex Christophel) were truly introduced to the Australian music scene. This hard hitting tune gained the trio 5 out of 5 ratings from Triple J presenters, features on leading music websites (Tone Deaf, etc.), and airplay on Triple J unearthed radio and the ABC TV show, Rage. With the continuing momentum gained from this track, Horror My Friend picked up additional significant supports with bands such as BRITISH INDIA, DUNE RATS and REGULAR JOHN, and was included in Luna Magazine’s Top Ten Unearthed Tracks That the Hottest 100 Missed.

“Birds” is Horror My Friend’s first release for 2013, showing a greater development and energy in their sound, while also displaying an ability to strip a track right down, only to crash right back into a post-punk fury. Recorded by Matt Hills (Wolf & Cub, Fire! Santa Rosa! Fire! etc) at Hillside Studios and mastered by Leon Zervos (Tame Impala, Children Collide, etc.) at Studios 301, this track is sure to keep Horror My Friend on the rise.“Birds” is Horror My Friend’s first release for 2013, showing a greater development and energy in their sound, while also displaying an ability to strip a track right down, only to crash right back into a post-punk fury. Loving the fuzzy, frenetic, Sonic Youth-esque style of this rocking little number.

Pretty damn sick. Shakes about tensely and then the chorus swoops in with fuzzy tones of excellence.

That big wave of noise is incredible. This is a huge tune.
