AWOL concert - Humpty Doo NT
triple j is going AWOL. And we here at Unearthed are buggered if we're going to miss out! We're patching up that bandwagon and prettying ourselves for the trek to Humpty Doo, a wee town just south of Darwin on the Arnhem Highway. We may stop in at the reptile world which has over 300 snakes, and take some pics next to the giant boxing croc, but mostly we're looking forward to a good ole hoe-down on Saturday 21st July.

More about AWOL »

As part of the AWOL initiative, triple j's setting up a stage, turning on some lights, bringing along some bands and calling it a concert! Missy Higgins, Something For Kate and Blue King Brown are all lined up, and triple j Unearthed would like to see some local action as well. So you fine merry band from the Northern Territory, hurry along to the website and get your stuff uploaded by Sunday 24th June (if you already have tracks uploaded to the site you are automatically part of this competition). We might just see you there!

And to the states of Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland, keep an eye out for the Unearthed bandwagon trundling your way soon ...

Congratulations to...

These four lads from Alice Springs got our heads nodding to their winning track 'Sometimes' - rockin' rhythms combined with an acoustic feel. They've been performing together for just over three years and have already notched up some killer spots including supporting the Hilltop Hoods. These young guns are on the up and up.

The car's packed and we're on our way to the airport

Had to have a new "Do" for the Doo. Would you let your drummer dye your hair?

On air interview with Rosie and The Doctor is done and we have one last photo to cap off a great weekend. We're livin' a dream...

Some of our devoted fans made their own merch for the show and travelled from Alice.

Jayden's tour diary

I’m 17 years old, sitting on a 747 by myself heading back to Australia. I had to bail out of a family holiday in the US to get back for AWOL in Humpty Doo and couldn’t be happier.  I’ve got one day to rehearse with the band then on Friday we fly out to Darwin to open for Missy Higgin’s, Something for Kate, and Blue King Brown.  We’ve got a new CD coming out in late Sept. we’ve scored a gig with triple j we are so psyc’d.

First night in Humpty Doo we meet the triple j crew at the trivia night they scheduled at the Humpty Doo Hotel. A great ice breaker for everyone in the band we got to meet Jay, The Doctor, Myf as well as the support people that organized our trip. We've got a big itinerary tomorrow starting at 09:45 with a songwriters workshop with Missy, SFK and BKB. The biggest difference between this show and other big spots we've had in the past is the level of production. There's media everywhere with jtv, jmag, the live broadcast crew as well as local media. The coolest interview was with SFK and myself for jmag. Just sitting for an hour chatting with Steph, Paul and Ronan was great.

Sound Check’s at 3pm, the stage manager and tech crew are amazing everything is perfect there’s no rush they just want to make sure it’s all right. The stage is massive the sound is great and people are pouring in.

We hit the stage at 5:10 we are all pumped, the set goes off and before we know it, it’s over. One more live to air interview at 8:10 with Rosie and the Doctor. A few photos and it’s over. We kick back and take in the rest of the show and fly out in the morning.

Thanks triple j for an incredible weekend.
