In 1997, four musicians hailing from all over Australia gave life to the band known to us as Roy Mackonkey. They were purely a heavy act in those days. Within a year they had headlined the Top End's Australian Music Day concert and gained national radio airplay after recording the Quality of Meat EP with Triple J producer Chris Thompson. Now, nearly a decade into their journey, Roy has released a string of EPs, toured interstate on several occasions, and developed a plethora of sounds with a rich aural flavour. With nearly sixty original heavy and acoustic tracks under their belt, this coupled with a dynamic stage performance makes Roy a formidable force indeed.

A partial list of bands that Roy Mackonkey have shared stages with: Rollins Band, Jebediah, You Am I, The Living End, The Dissociatives, Bodyjar, Grinspoon, Frenzal Rhomb, Rebecca's Empire, The Superjesus, Magic Dirt, Team Jedi, The Cruel Sea, Human Nature, Shannon Noll, Painters & Dockers, Pollyanna, Even, 28 Days, Mark Seymour, Motor Ace, Mental As Anything, The Screaming Jets, Slim Dusty, Shellie Morris...as well countless great local bands.

Since 2006 the enigmatic Roy Mackonkey has been comprised of singer/lyricist John Coulehan, guitarist Darryl Barba, bassplayer Brian McLeod, and drummer Fletcher Bowman.
