The Phonies have had a memorable year, independently releasing two singles, Crayon Factory and Get Go and learning some harsh lessons on the road when thousands of dollars worth of music gear was stolen from their tour van during their first east coast tour in March. The band has bounced back with a fresh enthusiasm and resilience, with their next single Douche Bag due for release October 29, and another 13 date east coast tour booked for November.
The Phonies have made an impact playing shows in nothing but speedos and chappy caps at Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge, Newtown and Surry Hills Festivals. Their theatrical live shows with backup singers, lifeguards and even Referee Lampshade, has helped them build a strong following in Sydney. Since releasing their previous single Crayon Factory they’ve been listed as a featured artist on Triple J’s Unearthed and Home & Hosed.

“Though it’s easy to call The Phonies a hip-hop outfit, they feel like more than that. There’s elements of Vampire Weekend afro-beat, the melodic ear of Outkast and the harmonies of ‘60s pop… …bright as a summer’s day and as addictive as top-grade crack.” Dom Alessio - Triple J
