The Resignators

A Psychoska band from Melbourne, Australia.

Melbourne City ska all-stars, The Resignators, never knew back in 2005 that their infectious sound and trend defying style would take them around the world. As one of Australia's hardest working independent bands, The Resignators have seen it all, playing over 500 shows both nationally and internationally. This road hardened septet know how to get any room of people on their feet and skanking to their Ska infused beats.

INTRODUCING THE RESIGNATORS

Francis “der Kapitän” Harrison • Vocals
Francis started The Resignators seven years ago from the detritus of several other Melbourne ska and punk bands. He was once a dance instructor at a girl’s school, but now dedicates himself full-time to being a security guard and touring and recording with Australia’s hardest-working punk/ska band. He loves Rancid and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones as well as Big Bands. He also runs Care Factor Records and Focus Group Music and organises the annual Ska Nation Festival in Melbourne. Der Kapitän prefers cider over beer and loves almost all street food! He loves zoot suits, and his shoe collection is only rivalled by Stacy’s.

Steve “Balsac” Douglas • Guitar, backing vocals
Steve got his first taste of ska in the 1970’s in Nassau, Bahamas where he took his first guitar lessons from two elderly Voodoo priestesses. He came up through the ranks of Richmond VA punk bands including Death Piggy and GWAR, of which he was a founding member as the first “Balsac, Jaws of Death”. Steve is an audio-book narrator by day, and he loves the old school ska of Desmond Decker, Byron Lee, and Prince Buster, as well as the Rock Steady sound and the old school CBGB’s style punk bands. He plays a German made Duesenberg “Starplayer Silver Sparkle”. Steve has never met a cheese he does not like, and is excited about the options he will find in Europe.

Stacy “Staccers” Kilpatrick • Organ, backing vocals
Stacy got her musical talent from her mom, a classical pianist. She also plays tenor and alto sax, fiddle and oboe (but she laid that down when she heard it causes brain embolisms). Her love is her Nord Electro 3, but give her a Hammond and a Leslie and she is happy too, as long as she doesn’t have to load it in. Stacy also plays in bluegrass band Family Farm (with Steve) and listens to everything she can, but loves the sound of Jackie Mittoo and Roger Rivas (The Aggrolites). Stacy is an environmental field supervisor, and likes expresso martinis and good red wines and loves to shop on tour for steampunk corsets and dresses. Do not go boot shopping with her unless you have plenty of time to spare.

Ben “Sharpy” Sharp • Drums
Sharpy came to The Resignators from hardcore punk roots, which accounts for his stamina and strength. He also performed acrobatics and was the daring young man on the flying trapeze in Circus Oz. He promotes shows with Bombshell Productions and works at JB Hi-fi Music stores and CBD Nightclub when not banging on skins. He also currently plays with Melbourne rockabilly outfit Workinghorse Irons. He likes to listen to modern hardcore punk like The Casualties, etc. He cannot eat peanuts and loves Subway sandwiches without cheese or mayo. He sleeps a lot between gigs and farts more than any other band member on tour, hopefully outside the van.

Bruce “The Scot”” Armstrong • Bass Guitar
Bruce played in a variety of bands in his early musical career, including punk, flamenco, latin jazz and aboriginal metal bands. He usually wears a kilt onstage to allow for ventilation. Bruce plays a Fender P-bass through Gallien-Kreuger amps. He loves funk and first-wave ska, and also plays in the ska band King Stone, as well as various jazz combos. When he is not gigging, he is a teacher for audio recording in Australia. Bruce exercises regularly and loves to swim and run. He likes to cook and enjoys craft beers, and will be sampling the local wares of each country we visit in Europe.

Wayne “ Koffalot“ Keys • Bass Trombone, backing vocals
Wayne spent twenty years with Brisbane, Australia ska bands The FunAddicts and Blowhard (and many more) before Queensland floods forced a move to Melbourne. The Resignators discovered and recruited him while on tour with Bad Manners (UK) with whom he has done three Australian tours. He has also guest ‘boned with Agent Orange, Club Ska, The Porkers, and The Fuck Fucks. Wayne also performs in a lounge-punk solo act called The Wayne Keys Experience in which he wears crazy costumes. He has the only trombone we have ever seen that has “eyes” and a “hand”. Wayne makes wheelchairs as a trade, and is a vegetarian and loves ciders.

Jeremy “Jezabelle” Meaden • Trumpet, backing vocals
Jeremy is the newest member of The Resignators, having just returned to Oz from Belfast, Northern Ireland where he played for several years with the Irish “mod” outfit, The Vals. With a degree in sound design, he earns a living as a construction labourer. He lives in “the bush” in the country of Australia with the cockatoos, kookaburras, koalas and kangaroos. He loves motorcycles, especially vintage British bikes. He also plays in jazz combo Lexy De Rock and the Sugarfoot Blues Brigade. Jezza loves 30’s fashions and funk and northern soul. His favorite food is ice cream, but you cannot tell that from his svelte figure.

The Resignators live shows have to be seen to be believed, transforming a lifeless crowd into dancing mayhem.

There has been some confusion over our 'indie' status... ALL OF OUR RELEASES HAVE COME OUT ON TTR or CARE FACTOR RECORDS which are our own labels (our singer runs Care Factor) and we've been lucky enough to have distribution through MAJORS and INDIES because of the hard work we do... We are totally DIY, we raise our own money to tour, record and release. THANK-YOU

Fast brass, a good old fashioned group chant, and it's all over by the time you've regained your equilibrium. Fantastic!
