The Transparent Cube is the name under which Steven R records his mostly acoustic guitar-driven songs, in his small townhouse bedroom in the outer-northern suburbs of Brisbane. The songs were recorded over the past 12 months on his home computer and a dodgy microphone, utilising the spare time he garners between working full-time as a landscape architect. Steven writes, plays and records his songs primarily as a solo project, with acoustic guitar, ukulele, mandolin, recorder, keyboards and drum sequencing to achieve his eclectic sound. The songs fall into the somewhat shady and undefined category of melodic folkish pop. Attention to thoughtful lyrics coupled with an apt awareness of a good melody and orchestration is a definite strength of The Transparent Cube. The Transparent Cube is generally not a live act, gaining the most satisfaction from committing his simple yet intricately arranged songs into a permanent, recorded medium and distributing amongst friends and family. They say they like it.
