Anger Management: Mental As on triple j Unearthed

In amongst the best new heavy sounds from triple j Unearthed, Leah Sharman from the University of Queensland’s School of Psychology discusses her research on the healing qualities of metal music. \m/

"We brought participants into the lab and we attached a heart rate monitor to them," she told us this week. "And then we took them through an Anger Induction: I tortured people for about fifteen minutes about the things that made them angry, and then we got the participants to either sit in silence for ten minutes, listen to their own music playlists for fifteen minutes, or listen to heavy metal music for fifteen minutes." 

The results, honestly, are pretty interesting. You’ll also hear from the some of the loudest music makers in the country – Leeches!, Fifth Dawn, Manhattan’s Wake, Earthender, Angry Seas – discussing how they use it as an outlet.
