Ask a musician

What does it take to forge a career in music? Let's find out! Watch the clip below to find out what advice Julian Hamilton from The Presets and singer Montaigne had for budding young musicians.

If videos ain't your thing, you can read Julian's advice here. He answered a stack of questions about how to make it as a musician. Here's a taste, "It was at least eight years after I finished university that The Presets started supporting us 100%. So my advice would be to be prepared to put in some time and some hard work. But always remember: you're a musician first, even if you have to work a pizza job to support it."

Former Unearthed High finalist Montaigne also had some great tips for making music that will resonate. She said, "Figure out what works for you. There's no generic formula that will make you successful in your creative ventures." See? Simple! You can read heaps more helpful stuff from her on Unearthed High, developing a 'musical persona' and confronting your inner critic right here
