Last year, 46 different artists won competitions on triplejunearthed.com. Prizes for winning a comp range from teaming up with the NIDA to create your own music video, having your Hermitude remix hand-picked by the band as their favourite, being flown to Darwin to perform at the National Indigenous Music Awards, and of course, opening up a killer music festival in your home state.
But what's it actually like to win a triple j Unearthed comp? We handed Field Day comp winner Jess Kent the keys to our Instagram account and she took it for a spin to give you the inside scoop. Here's what happens when you win an Unearthed comp:
1) You get excited
And make videos like this.
2) You get to meet Skepta
Fact: Skepta is on hand at every Australian music festival and can't wait to meet you.
3) Look at how many cool things there are to sit on
And you get to look fly as hell while sitting so comfortably.
4) You get to play your first ever show to heaps of people
And you kill it. Your mum is in attendance and she is very proud. She will fuss over you after whether you like it or not. This is the most important day of her life.
5) You have the best time.
“Being onstage at Field Day was so surreal," Jess told us afterwards. "The vibe from the crowd was incredible! It was rad to share that experience backstage with so many artists that I look up to. I can't wait to support Elliphant on 6th & 7th Jan and then Shamir on 18th Feb!”
Shouts to Jess for keeping us updated! Check out her music over here.
