Triple J’s Tommy Faith described 100’s last single “Just Us” as “[a] savage, literate piece of punk”. A statement that rings true about the band as a whole. 100’s approach to songwriting and perform- ing live is relentless and unforgiving whilst still leaving room for self reflection and an unparalleled rawness.
On their newest release, Weightless, the enigmatic 4-piece delve deeper into their sound, exploring their influences and expanding their songwriting prowess. A 6 minute epic of a song that has all the hallmarks of a 100 track. Colby Mcqueen and Paris Grant holding down a tight rhythm while Jaryd Colivas’ lead guitar soars up and over like an arm out the window on a highway. Rowen Tucker’s acoustic guitar keeps the track grounded while his lyrics explore growing up on the NSW central coast, life, death and all the mundane moments in between.
About Weightless, Tucker says ”its a story from the hot and dull Australian suburbs, for the kids born into mediocrity and low expectation, that choose to search for a life bigger and more challenging. Who, while planning their escape will bide their time by going inward to find refuge in a world of in books, music, art and film.”
Weightless is the first track off an upcoming EP out early 2020.
