I saw these guys play at Katoomba last night, and I was captured. every song had me. I bought the CD. The band's live performance is engaging, the songs are stories deserving of the attention. They were the support, and The main event was so boring I left- thankful that the big name pulled a sold out crowd to witness The Wonderful Lives.

It's hard for a band to be influenced by their favourite artists (as described above) and yet sound like something wholly original, but these songs by The Wonderful lives each have elements of Waits' slightly askew country sound, Cave's balladry with a sense of impending doom and Harvey's restrained energy, with each song being really good. My fav. would have to be 100 Ways, which has a lurching swing that makes me feel like I'm blind drunk on a ship rocking in foul seas. Check em out.

Strong vocals complimented by perfect harmonies, the piano marks a stately pace, the lyrics are a two-fingered 'up-yours' to leaving behind a pointless and tired relationship. Folky, simple, an instantly likable tune.
