"The men stand around like headless agapanthus." I find something new in this song every time I come back. I can't decide if it makes me smile or cry and that is a very special thing.

No prizes for anyone mentioning Paul Kelly in their reviews! Yeah that influence is apparent but it's a complimentary comparison to be put in that class. You've used a 1000x zoom to flesh out the details of this yarn.

You've imbued your words with so much colour so that these scenes and people are so beautiful, sad and vivid.

you've got a lot of lyrics here and they're all good. "one more day, one more hour / as the sun dips behind the Telstra tower" is a beautiful string of words.

I always think about how hard it would be to write stories in lyrics like this without sounding awkward or forced. But as soon as I heard the first lines "flies buzz around the homemade irrigation - the labels on the bottles sag in condensation" I knew I was in good hands - and that I could sit back and relax into your scenery. I think you've really nailed it here.

This is everything I've always wanted! For a big Paul Kelly fan like myself, I don't we've truly heard anything that resembles his style on Unearthed from what I remember. My favourite songs are those where I can hear the storytelling. Those simple key melody and the country-twang guitars just top it all off. Will definitely be listening to the new ones!

I heard this on the radio the other day and had to pull my car over. There is a genuinely masterful use of language on display here that rips you out of whatever you are doing and throws you into the scenery of the song. Stunning.
