As moody and tense as ever. These guys have their sound locked down.

It's like a noisy Joy Division, concocting sounds in a dark, dank basement.

The driving pace and aggressive guitar lines in this song make in one of impact. It is tonally cold but the well considered layers and arrangement mean that it is also overwhelming, or perhaps consuming. The strong and sometimes desperate vocal matches the instrumentation. A well conceived and beautifully articulated song.

With either overt or subdued intensity through out every moment of this song you are regardless still left with a sense of space. Pulsing overdriven bass notes move pensively between semi-tones combined with subtle poly-rhythmic drums that keep your head bopping. Couple this with lush guitar (or are they synths in the verse?) that in the chorus threaten to unleash chaos. Think ‘My Disco’ meets ‘Tears for Fears’. This is brilliant.

Simply beautiful. I heard this track for the first time when i was driving, I turned the bass up as high as it would go and it made Closer less song and more experience. This song has it's own atmosphere.

I love listening to this song both live and on record. Every time I listen to it, it leaves me wanting more. In fact this song should go for at least an hour so that Telstra could use it as their hold music- the world would be a better place. I hope Steering By Stars become as big as this song deserves to be.

This is one of those songs that when you hear it, everything slows down and you see the real beauty in and of life. I hear that keyboard part in my sleep, and that with those swirling guitars, those bass notes, those crescendo-ing drums and those haunting words in that melody, I'm hooked.

I like this one better than Ether as I sometimes enjoy ambient-style music (and that's how this track feels to me). I still probably wouldn't come to any gigs though as it's too much of an indy aural attack for me, though who am I to judge - I listen to The Mars Volta and junk :p All the best, Chaz
