Bio

Abbey Rose is a Canadian born, Darwin-raised songwriter and performer, making music in Melbourne. Heavily influenced by RnB, hip hop, blues, and enveloped in a warm jazz-flavoured hug, Abbey Rose serves up rich lyricism, catchy hooks and grooves that get under your skin, featuring the celestial stylings of some of Melbourne’s best young players.

As a solo artist, the past few years have seen Abbey support acts such as NGAIIRE, Emma Louise and Kaki King, and more recently one might recognise her as ‘Saucy Mama’ from funky fem-hop outfit The Mamas.

Releasing material for the first time with her four-piece band, her debut single ‘He’ is a deeply personal snapshot of long-distance love, tenderly walking the line between hope and lament. ‘He’ captures a state of heavy-hearted longing, peppered with bursts of determined optimism; something that many long-distance lovers know all too well.

Lyrical delivery sits beautifully between that tight punctuated hip-hop rap feel and effortless jazz laid back feel. Truly enchanting, I can imagine dancing down the street in my own little world to this.

This is a breathe of fresh air; light, bright and a little bit sweet.
