Bio

Alice takes influence from old-time music, with a nod to growing up in humid climes amongst a tight-knit community in the Northern Territory. Lyrics are sometimes direct and crude, but often visually descriptive and capture a feeling or moment. The music is stubbornly cheerful, with scratchy fiddle and stripped-back percussion creating spaciousness. After several years performing with Melbourne bands in pubs, country-halls and festivals, Alice has returned home to work on new material connected to Territory stories and country. Recent highlights include training with Appalachian musician Jesse Milnes, USA, and a sell-out performance exploring queer NT music at the 2019 Darwin Fringe Festival. Alice is recording her first EP in 2020.

Cotton has the quality that Paul Kelly and Stellar Donnelly have whereby it seemingly feels like she's narrating the mundane moment in life and relationships that we've all been through and then - POW - you're hit with the depth and breathe of her storytelling.
