Allume is the solo project of Elena Nees, which began with a series of sparse electronic demos published on her Soundcloud page in 2013. Nees continued to drip through songs under her solo moniker as time passed culminating in her first self-produced EP Why Move Very Fast At All, released through Melbourne cassette tape label Healthy Tapes. She also began performing solo, spurred on by the offer of her first support gig for Australian act Ball Park Music. In 2018 her focus shifted to live music and local collaboration as she joined local acts Rex Wonderful and the Silk Sheets, Introduction! (bass and vocals) and David Blumberg & the Maraby Band (percussion and vocals). This influenced Nees’ songwriting and performance style, swapping her laptop and vocal looping for a live set of vocals and electric guitar. It is in this capacity that Elena has been performing in 2018, touring with David Blumberg throughout QLD and NSW in January and supporting both international and local acts such as Naomi Keyte, Ricky Albeck, East Brunswick All Girls Choir and Unknown Mortal Orchestra under her stage name, Allume. Amidst this, she has written and self recorded a new EP titled Valentine, a collection of songs exploring the intersection between live instrumentation and electronic sampling. These songs were written throughout mid-2017 and late 2018. She is currently working on her debut album set to be complete mid 2019.
