Army Ant formed in 2005 when Adam Simpson on drums, Gene Katliakas on guitar, and Jeremiah Blanch on bass started playing improvisational shows in Sydney. Armed with only courage and a handful of riffs, they built a cult following for their chaotic yet danceable live performances and blistering energy, drawing comparisons to Queens of the Stone Age and Sonic Youth. After auditions for singers proved unsuccessful (and occasionally dangerous), bass player Jeremiah Blanch began writing lyrics, and the satirical Army Ant sense of humour developed.
