Artefact are a new Australian group comprised of Jim and Chrissy Flanagan (no relation). The recording process of their debut album ‘No Safe Place’ began on the NSW South Coast (‘No Safe Place’ is a rail side sign on Sydney Trains’ South Coast Line) before relocating to Sydney’s Inner West and finally spending four months re-recording sections of it with session musicians under the watchful eye of award winning composer/musician/producer Stu Hunter.
Stu won Australian Jazz Album of the Year in 2009, has played on records and toured with everyone from Passenger, Katie Noonan and Silverchair as well as produced albums by Wes Carr and Sara Mcleod. The record was released in 2014 and described by the Sydney Morning Herald as a ‘magic carpet of sound.’
Artefact made their live debut on the 5th of June at Leichhardt Town Hall. The live show consists of six multi-instrumentalists switching between percussion, electronics and a host of instruments and is accompanied by a projection mapping based visual show designed by Sydney based visual artist Laura Turner.
Their first single ‘What I Want’ has just been released, with a 3D animated video produced by a team of animators in four different continents.
