Astrid & The Asteroids exploded onto the scene after winning the 2012 Billy Thorpe Scholarship at the Queensland Music Awards. Hand-picked by QMusic and the family of Billy Thorpe as the most promising new talent in QLD for the year, the band picked up the award along with the $10,000 prize money. 2013 has seen them put the scholarship to good use, recording a string of tracks that have seen them work with the music industry's best, such as Magoo, Jeff Lovejoy, Sugarrush Music, and Andrew Stone (Chugg Entertainment). Their first single of the year, West End, received rave reviews from Noel Mengel (Courier Mail), Independent Australia, the [AU]Review, Scene Magazine, and online blogs such as It's My Kind Of Scene, and the OrangePress. The single received airplay on Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Rage and local radio across the nation. All the while, the video clip views keep clocking up by the thousands on Youtube. Their second single, Autopsy was released August 3, 2013 to a sold-out Brisbane crowd, and is building up the same nationwide, radio momentum. The third single, Old Friend, to be released in October has been nominated as Urban Song of the Year at the 2013 QLD Music Awards. The result will be announced Tuesday August 13th, 2013.
